About the Foundation

The Ethical Property Foundation is a charity committed to:

  • empowering charities and community groups to make the most of property
  • improving the environmental and social performance of the commercial property sector

Since we launched our Property Advice Service in 2005, we have helped more than 250 charitable organisations in London and Bristol to find, rent, buy and manage properties.  We offer free information, advice and training to small charities and consultancy to better resourced charities.  We aim to help charities reduce the amounts of time and money they spend on premises, freeing up resources for their charitable work.

As part of the Property Advice Service we operate a Register of Property Professionals. This group of indivduals including surveyors, solicitors, relocation specialists and others, are committed to working with the charitable sector and offer discounts on their services.

We were ‘Highly Commended’ at the Charity Awards 2007 for our contribution to the charity sector.

Alongside our Property Advice Service, we are developing our work in a number of directions, including helping groups to maximise community benefits from planning obligations (the contribution a developer makes to the needs of a new community, such as education, healthcare or open space) and working to improve the social and environmental performance of the property industry.

We are working on a series of workshops and a guide to help community groups maximise community benefits from planning obligations

We are exploring what an ethical commercial property sector might look like, and how we can work to make the practices of some of the most forward thinking property companies the norm.

Our sister organisation, the Ethical Property Company, owns and manages a £20 million portfolio of 15 resources centres in England and Scotland which provide affordable office and retail space to over 150 charities, campaign groups and community organisations.
